What is a handyman job?

There is no one answer.
There are literally hundreds, perhaps more.
Handyman jobs are usually small jobs that are start to finish or can be in preparation of a bigger job.
A small job can even come after a big project.
When you find yourself at wits end to complete something without either the time skill or resources you will likely need the services of a handyman.

A handyman differs from a contractor or someone in a specialized trade in that he has a diverse pallet of knowledge and skills.
A handyman is, well, just handy!
Most home projects require the skills of a variety of different tradesman, but a handyman is capable of handling all of their duties at once!
For a project such as a major renovation or the building of a new home, many different tradesman would be used such as plumbers, masons, electricians, roofers, etc.
But for small jobs, it is unlikely that a specialized tradesman would take on the job for just a few hours. Their optimal work is much longer jobs involving weeks, months and occasionally even longer. They have crews and large overheads that make small jobs unprofitable.
Even if it was possible, to coordinate the scheduling of a plumber, carpenter, and electrician it would be maddening and the price would likely be the same if not more.

Enter, the handyman.

A handyman is well versed in the basic processes each trade uses. Unless there is an unusual circumstance these processes are what make up the lions share of small jobs. A handyman goes through a project with a tool box full of a combination of many trade tools. Like changing hats, the handyman transitions from one occupation to the next . That is the advantage. One person, one rate for the entire job. For small jobs its very cost effective.
